Biography
Cory Benavides focuses his practice on workers’ compensation defense of insurance carriers as well as self-insured employers in the construction, transportation and warehousing industries. What sets Cory apart is his insightful pre-trial strategy development and successful track record in motion litigation and taking matters to trial.
Success at trial looks different for each client but saving clients money is always the goal. For his construction client, Cory found success at trial by avoiding a finding of “total disability,” saving his client more than a projected $750,000 in lifetime disability benefits. Cory was also successful litigating motions for medical and temporary benefits – among the most costly to defend in workers’ compensation litigation – winning denials of these motions in both matters. He’s also had multiple cases dismissed for findings of fraud. In a particular case involving occupational claims, where the petitioner argued she was unable to perform her job due to carpal tunnel syndrome, she was later observed carrying multiple packages during the holidays.
Outside of his practice, Cory enjoys fresh water fishing for trout and bass in the lakes and streams of New Jersey. The largest fish he’s caught was a 5 ½ pound big mouth bass. Cory also plays guitar, which he first picked up when he was 12 years old. He currently plays with a few bands, which are currently in rehearsal for their first performances later this year.
